Frequently Asked Questions

At Veil & Vintage, we curate pre-loved jewelry, accessories, and home décor with an eye for authentic vintage charm. Every piece is chosen for its quality, beauty, and character. Because our treasures have lived a life before yours, they may show subtle signs of age such as gentle patina, a touch of wear, or tiny imperfections that tell their story. We believe these details add to the romance and history of each item.

Below you’ll find answers to our most common questions. If you don’t see yours here, we’re happy to help just reach out to us at info@veilandvintage.com or through our Contact Us page.

Item Condition

We only offer pieces in very good to excellent vintage condition. We do not sell items that are broken, non-functioning, or excessively worn. Each listing includes condition information noting any flaws beyond the gentle wear expected for its age. Photos are part of the description and represent the item’s true condition.

  • Excellent – Rare “like new” condition with no visible wear, missing stones, repairs, or discoloration.

  • Very Good – Minimal wear, often only visible under magnification. No repairs or missing stones. Metal and stones may show faint surface marks.

  • Good – Moderate wear (usually on the reverse), possibly a small repair or slight stone discoloration. Any notable imperfections are disclosed in the listing.

Item Provenance

Our collection comes from trusted sources such as estate sales, antique dealers, and private sellers. Due to age, it’s rarely possible to know an item’s complete history, including whether it has always been in a smoke- or pet-free home, or whether stones or components have been replaced. We do not repair items, but if we believe a repair was made in the past, it will be noted in the item details.

Dating an Item

When possible, we include an estimated production date based on hallmarks, maker’s marks, design style, and construction techniques. Some pieces, especially from designers who repeated styles over decades, require educated estimates rather than definitive dates.

Caring for Vintage Costume Jewelry

Vintage pieces often feature higher-quality plating than modern fashion jewelry, but they still deserve gentle care:

  • Keep jewelry dry; avoid wearing it while bathing, swimming, or washing dishes.

  • Remove rings before washing hands.

  • Apply hairspray and perfume before putting on your jewelry.

  • Store pieces in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

  • Use soft pouches or lined boxes to prevent scratches.

Avoid harsh cleaners, especially on rhinestones, enamel, or faux pearls. With a little care, your vintage treasures will be enjoyed for decades to come.

Item Availability

Most pieces in our shop are one-of-a-kind. Adding an item to your cart does not reserve it — another customer may complete their purchase first. Availability is confirmed at checkout. We do not currently offer layaway yet do offer payment installments.

Shipping & Handling

We ship via USPS Advantage or Priority Mail, with careful packaging to protect your purchase. Orders are processed promptly so your treasures arrive quickly. For complete details, please see our Shipping & Returns page.

Photography & Color Representation

All photos are taken in-house and are protected by copyright. We make minimal edits—only to brighten backgrounds, adjust lighting, or crop for clarity. Close-up images may highlight details and wear that you may not see when looking at the item. Because the items we photograph are shiny, reflective or light colors you may see black reflections from the lightbox.  Colors can vary slightly due to monitor settings, so if you have questions or would like additional photos, please contact us at info@veilandvintage.com.

Vintage Brands & Trademarks

Designer names and trademarks mentioned in our listings belong to their respective owners. Veil & Vintage is not affiliated with any brand. Many beautiful pieces are unmarked, this does not diminish their quality or value. Price is determined by condition, style, and rarity. Because we cannot always identify exact metal content, we recommend exercising caution if you have metal allergies.
